OUTLINE OF SERVICE

The Information Service is based in Newport but serves the Counties of Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire and Newport. (Information requests from the Torfaen area are handled by/referred to Age Concern Torfaen.)

The Information Service is essentially a helpline, [although personal callers are also welcome] available to anyone aged 50 or more living in the above areas. Their carers, family or friends may also approach the Service for advice, as can Health and Social Service professionals. Information may be requested on any topic, benefits usually accounting for approximately 33% of all calls.
The Manager and Assistant complete claim forms (such as for Attendance Allowance), interviews being carried out by appointment at the office.

The Service is provided by a Full Time Information Manager, and a Part Time Assistant. They are supported by a team of volunteers, who answer most of the day-to-day calls.

Days and Times

The Service operates Monday to Friday from 9.00 until 4.30. Occasionally, work is also carried out during evenings and weekends. (Giving evening-talks to groups, attending events etc.)

An answerphone operates at all other times.
