| Paying For Completion of Benefit Claim Forms |

We have become aware that there are companies offering to help older people to claim benefits, in return for a percentage share of any monies subsequently awarded by the Department for Work and Pensions. In some cases, they are taking as much as 45% of any benefits successfully awarded. Whilst this may not be an illegal act, - provided the cost implication was fully explained to and understood by, the person claiming the benefits, there is surely a question of whether it is morally right to deprive vulnerable older people of the benefits they have proven to be entitled to. Anyone considering paying someone to help them with claiming benefits, should be aware that organisations such as Age Concern Gwent do not charge at all for this help. Neither do many other organisations, including your local Citizens Advice Bureau. |
